"I want to thank you for your excellent evaluation of mom's swallowing difficultiies. We were able to follow your plan for the last month of mom's life. Your ideas and caring evaluation helped her feel more in control in the last two weeks especially."
-Sue Rodgers, Adult daughter

"In Nov. 2000, Jacque came on board as a feeding and swallowing consultant specializing in team building, parent-school relationships and diagnosis of medically complex children. Jacque became the key player in bridging the gap between all team members by validating each individual's opinion. She always managed to develop a sense of mutual respect and consensus on an action plan. Her communication skills were critical and her resources benefited the process as a whole. She could bring data together in an organized, functional format so staff and families left the process feeling supported, educated and confident that our programming for our students had been expanded and improved."
-Joann Shepard, Principal, Wayne-Finger-Lakes BOCES
- Kristina Saucke; Chairperson, Committee on Special Ed, Naples, New York

"As a cancer survivor of almost 10 years, I have come to know and value Jacque's services from a variety of perspectives. She first coached me through my surgery, outpatient therapy and very long recovery. She taught me the importance of a partnership with my team of doctors and what I needed to do to communicate effectively during this difficult and scary time in my life. She encouraged me to take charge of my healthcare and ask for important information. I am now going through some serious medical issues with a family member and I am finding that I can use the skills, ideas and suggestions Jacque shared with me to support this person during this painful and frightening time."
-Carol Flanders, Cancer survivor

"Jacque's healthcare coaching was an important part of what I needed as I managed my dad's medical needs. She taught me how to effectively communicate with the multiple healthcare professionals involved with my dad. I learned to ask questions and coordinate the information from his hospitalizations, rehab placements, surgeries and medication changes. She was available to my dad and our family as we tried to make sense of the confusing and overwhelming info that was being shared with us. She remained neutral throughout the entire time always encouraging my dad and our family to collaborate with the healthcare team to obtain the most accurate information possible. The value of her service goes beyond the specific time period she works with you. Once you have been coached, you have new skills and perspectives to problem solve and self advocate in the future."
-Christine Volpe, Adult daughter

" Your presentation about How to Communicate with Healthcare Providers was well researched and organized. Your tips and information were very helpful to our members and guests,as I'm sure you could tell from the number of questions that followed your presentation. This is clearly a topic many women can relate to, especially those in the "sandwich generation." You have important information to dispense and I am glad you were able to share it with NAWBO."
-Sandy Beckwith, Nat'l Association of Women Business Owners

"Due to throat cancer I went into the hospital to have a surgical procedure called a total laryngectomy. This procedure is the total removal of the larynx (vocal cords) and leaves the person without a voice. The day after my surgery I met Jacque Ater. From that day forward Jacque became the key player in guiding and coordinating all aspects of my recovery.
She held meetings with my family, friends, and co-workers, teaching them about my surgery and what to expect in the future. This eliminated any fear and awkwardness I may have felt when seeing people for the first time after surgery. She made sure early on that I realized that although I had lost my voice I had not lost my ability to communicate. With a compassionate, yet assertive style she gently guided me as I tried to return to my life after this life-altering experience. Jacque made sure that when the time came for me to go home from the hospital that I had the confidence and knowledge to take care of myself."
-DW, patient

"Jacque's coaching has been invaluable. She helps me save time, money and emotional stress by challenging me to realistically look at my home-based business and focus me forward. During our sessions I have found that personal disclosure has been helpful in understanding my motivation, behavior and passion and how it relates to my daily work. She encourages me to face joys and tragedies head-on as I continue to design and build my business."
-Mary Jo Conrad-Reingold, OTR/L, Founder, Access Over Time, Occupational Therapy, P.C. (Website: Access Over Time)
